Great News! You Can Change Your Gender Identity on Social Security

Sometimes something changes that creates true happiness.

When I read the news that my son could finally change the gender associated with his Social Security card I was very relieved. This is the last legal paperwork change we needed to do to make sure everyone knows is he male.

I downloaded the forms, filled them out and grabbed my son.

We headed to the Social Security office. While I was all prepared with everything I needed to say if I was met with resistance, it turned out I didn't need to worry. We got the job done easily!

Though Social Security cards do not display gender, the SSA does maintain that information as data, and it can impact other governmental programs. Making the change is important.
